There’s a number of ways pre-portioned trays can be adapted to suit you and your cat, if you’re not used to feeding just twice a day,
Firstly it depends why you’re feeding more than twice a day:
Kittens and fussy cats
For kittens and fussy cats, they often prefer ‘mouse-sized’ portions. This means smaller meals, often throughout the day.
For young kittens this can be as often as every 3-4 hours. This is because kittens often need more calories than adult cats, so the portions we’ll be sending them will seem very large. Sometimes 350kcal or 400kcal.
As your kitten gets older and you update their weight in your account, we’ll usually start to recommend that you switch to a smaller portion. Once they get close to 12 months, try switching to 3 and then 2 portions a day.
For fussy adult cats, they might be overwhelmed by large portions of food and get put off.
KatKin can be portioned by you for your cat specifically. Just spoon out a small amount of food and put the open tray back in the fridge for later.

If your cat seems hungry or unsatisfied with mainstream cat food
If you’re feeding more than 3-4 sachets or tins of mainstream cat food a day, you might not need to do the same with KatKin.
Often cat owners need to feed their cat 3-4 sachets of cat food a day because their cat:
Licks off the gravy or only eats the jelly, leaving the meat
Begs for more food within hours of eating
Often vomits or regurgitates their food after eating. Then, they eat their next portion too quickly due to hunger, repeating the cycle.
At KatKin, we measure the food we send for your cat by calories, not grams. This is different to portions of supermarket cat food which aren’t specialised for individual cats. If a standard sachet of cat food weighs 85g, ⅓ of this might be jelly or gravy. The remaining food can contain carbs like grains and fillers or as little as 4% meat, which won’t fill up your cat (and may be the reason for the endless 5am wake up calls.)
If we take our most common portion of Cluck, it weighs 80g a portion. This contains 100% human-quality chicken thigh, liver and heart. Think 17% protein compared to 7%. Because protein is a much more efficient source of energy for cats than carbohydrates, an ‘evening’ portion of KatKin should keep your cat full until breakfast.
