Is KatKin suitable for senior cats?
Absolutely, KatKin is suitable for all lifestages. Senior cats are considered to be cats older than 10 years but cats can sometimes live into their twenties. We want to be there for cats of all ages and our recipes made of 100% human-quality meat are perfect for older cats.
Why is KatKin good for senior cats?
🚰 KatKin has a high moisture content, at almost 70%. If you struggle to get your senior cat to drink water, KatKin is great at making sure they get the hydration they need.
🥩 Our 100% human-quality meat recipes are high in protein and made without any grains. Exactly what carnivore cats are meant to eat.
🧬 All of our recipes are balanced and complete, thanks to our nutrient mix. This contains all the vitamins and minerals cats need, including omega-6
⚖️ Easy to manage your cat's weight.
Senior cats might gain weight, as they move around less than when they were younger. This can be hard to manage and can lead to arthritis later in life.
Older cats might also struggle to keep weight on. As they become less active later in life, their muscle mass decreases.
Appropriate nutrition can be a powerful tool for preventing or even managing certain chronic diseases in senior cats. But, if your cat has a medical condition or chronic disease, check here to see if KatKin is suitable before placing an order.
We always recommend speaking with your vet before making any changes to your cat’s diet if they have an existing medical condition.
Is KatKin suitable for kittens?
6 KatKin recipes are suitable for kittens and can be fed to kittens as young as 8 weeks old. Each of our recipes is balanced and complete, so they’re perfect for growing kittens, who usually need additional nutrients that typical adult-only supermarket cat food is missing. This is why so many other brands need to make kitten specific meals.
When feeding 100% human-quality meat, from KatKin, you can rest knowing your kitten is getting everything they need from a young age. We wanted it to be easy for kittens to grow up eating fresh food and continue on as they get older, without the hassle of finding a new food for them.
Our food is also portioned for each cat, so if you let us know you have a kitten when you sign up, we’ll make sure they get the right amount of daily calories they need while they’re growing.
If your kittens portions seem large
Our sets of trays are pre-portioned into 2 meals - breakfast and dinner. While they need more calories than their adult counterparts, kittens often need smaller portions more regularly throughout the day.
You’re in complete control of portioning KatKin for your kitten. So if they need 3, 4, or even 5 meals a day, our trays can be cut open and put back in the fridge as many times as you need.
Tip! Just spoon out a small amount, pop the tray in a Tupperware and then serve the rest for lunch. Then do the same in the afternoon and evening.
As your kitten grows
Often, kittens need more calories than adult cats, so once your kitten is signed up to KatKin, keep information like their weight, activity level and body condition score up to date in your account. We’ll do all the hard work recalculating their new portion size, and let you know if you should change the amount of food they’re getting in your account before your next order.
At KatKin, we have 6 different portion sizes for our recipes. Kittens often reach a peak amount of daily calories just before they reach 1 year old. Once they’re one year old, remember to log back into your account and update their tray size.
Our calculator will probably suggest a reduction in their portion. Plus, you’ll be able to add Baaa to their next box!
🐑 Baaa is our lamb recipe and the only recipe we currently have that’s not suitable for kittens. It won’t be visible in their recipe selection until they reach adulthood.
