Serving KatKin

How to serve KatKin in a way that works for you and your cat

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Whether you’re about to serve your first KatKin tray, or you’d like to try some different serving ideas, follow our steps below.

Opening your trays

  1. Pull your trays apart down the perforated line, so you have a morning or evening portion ready to give to your cat.

  2. Gently squeeze the tray, to break up the pieces of meat into smaller bite-size pieces. This also helps the meat juices be incorporated back into the meat, so it’s nice and juicy.

  3. Squeeze the meat downwards, so you have 1-2cm of empty tray at the top ready to cut

  4. Grab your scissors - cut the top 1.5cm off your tray and shake the tray over your cat’s bowl or plate.

  5. Or use a knife to perforate the tray and cut open the colourful film. Whichever you prefer!

  6. Spoon out a small amount and put your open tray in a tupperware to go back into the fridge for later.

✂️ Tip! KatKin trays can't be peeled open, due to the strong vacuum seal we use during production. You'll need to use scissors or a knife to open each tray.

If there’s leftover meat in the tray:

  1. Use a spoon to get the remaining pieces of food. You can use the same spoon to break up their food into even smaller pieces

  2. Or add a small amount of warm water to the tray and swill it around. Pour this over your cat’s food to add even more moisture to their diet and help clean out the tray.

Heating up KatKin

A lot of cats are happy to eat their KatKin straight from the fridge, with no added effort. But some cats prefer their food to be warm or closer to body temperature.

You can heat up KatKin in a few ways:

  1. Before you open a tray, put it in a bowl of warm water for 5 minutes to bring it to room temperature.

  2. Once on a plate or bowl, microwave the food for 15 seconds.

  3. Put their tray of KatKin on the kitchen side for an hour before serving, to bring it to room-temperature.

Heating up the food in this way releases even more meat juices and melts any visible fat. For senior cats or cats with limited smell, this should make KatKin smell stronger and even more appealing.

The finishing touches

Finish off your cat’s meal by adding some of our chicken Sprinkles meal topper. 100% chicken breast, it’s the perfect addition to KatKin, especially for fussier cats.

Tip! If your cat’s allergic to chicken and you have salmon Nibbles to hand, try crumbling up a salmon Nibble over your cat’s food. Et voilà. Homemade salmon Sprinkles!

As KatKin is balanced and complete, there’s no need to add additional supplements to your cat’s food*. Our Nutrient mix and addition of fish or sunflower oil in our recipes means you can be certain your cat is getting everything they need from their fresh diet.

*For senior cats or cats with medical conditions who need additional supplements, we recommend speaking to your vet and getting in touch with our In-house Vet Team for additional support. Together, we can work out the best way to serve KatKin for your cat.

Feeding routine tips

Your cat’s trays will come connected, labelled ‘morning’ and ‘evening’. We know 2 portions a day doesn’t work for every cat.

If your cat prefers smaller portions, more often throughout the day:

Because KatKin is fresh meat, with no additives or preservatives, it can’t be left out for as long as tinned or dry cat food. We don’t recommend leaving a portion of KatKin out of the fridge for longer than 4 hours or even less in warmer weather.

You can also put any unfinished plates back in the fridge for later, if your cat hasn’t finished their portion.

If your cat is fussy, a large amount of food might actually put them off and overwhelm them. So , just open a tray and serve half of their portion and then put the open tray back in the fridge for later.

Switch up the recipes!

If your cat likes multiple recipes, there’s no need to stick to Cluck for breakfast and dinner. Try feeding a different recipe in the evening to maintain variety. Or let your cat decide - we love giving our cats two choices, and seeing which one they boop their nose with first.

Our morning and evening portions contain the exact same balanced and complete food, thanks to our Nutrient Mix. So there’s no worry about feeding your cat a ‘morning’ portion of Quack and then a ‘morning’ portion of Mooo that same day.
