Suitable recipes for kittens

Updated this week

Feeding your kitten a fresh, balanced diet helps support healthy growth and long-term wellbeing. At KatKin, our recipes are complete, balanced and suitable for all life stages, from kittens through to senior cats.

Every recipe is formulated by our board-certified veterinary nutritionist using 100% human-quality meat and fish, and gently cooked to protect nutrients and flavour.

Does lifestage impact which food I receive?

When you set up your KatKin account, adding your cat’s age helps us make sure they receive recipes that are safe and nutritionally appropriate for their life stage.

KatKin recipes are designed to meet the needs of cats at every age. We do not produce separate “kitten” or “senior” foods because our recipes are already balanced for all stages of life. The only exception is Baaa, our lamb recipe, which is available once your cat reaches one years old.

Baaa does not contain the higher levels of nutrients required for growth and development, so it is reserved for adult cats. All other KatKin recipes are suitable for kittens from weaning age (around eight weeks old).

If you tell us during sign-up that one of your cats is a kitten, Baaa will not appear in their trial box. When your cat turns one, Baaa will automatically appear in your recipe selection and can be added to your next delivery.

Recipes

KatKin currently offers seven gently cooked, fresh recipes, made from human-quality meat and formulated to meet FEDIAF nutritional guidelines.

Each recipe is complete and balanced, suitable for all life stages except Baaa (for kittens under one year old):

  • 🐔 Cluck - 100% gently cooked chicken thigh, liver, and heart

  • 🦃 Gobble - 100% gently cooked turkey thigh, liver, gizzards, and traces of chicken

  • 🦆 Quack - 100% gently cooked duck meat, gizzards, liver, and chicken heart, thigh

  • 🐄 Mooo - 100% gently cooked beef trim, heart, and liver

  • 🐟 Splash - 100% gently cooked whitefish, salmon, and turkey liver

  • 🐖 Oink - 100% gently cooked pork shoulder, trim, and liver

Each recipe is formulated to meet or exceed FEDIAF nutritional guidelines so your kitten receives all the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development.

What about additional nutrients?

KatKin recipes start with 100% human-quality meat and fish, which naturally provide most of the essential nutrients cats need to thrive. To make each meal complete and balanced, our board-certified veterinary nutritionist has created the KatKin Nutrient Mix — a precise blend that complements the natural nutrition from the meat.

The mix includes:

  • Calcium and phosphorus for bone health

  • Taurine for heart, vision and digestive health

  • Vitamins A, D, E, B1, B9 and B12 to support growth and energy

  • Minerals such as zinc, iron, manganese, copper and iodine for overall health and metabolism

You do not need to add supplements to your kitten’s food. Every recipe is scientifically balanced and aligned with FEDIAF guidelines to support growth and long-term health.

Suitability

KatKin recipes are suitable for most cats, including kittens from weaning age. If your kitten has a specific allergy or medical condition, we recommend speaking with our in house vet team and your vet before starting KatKin.

If you would like support, our Cat Experts and in-house vet team can share nutritional breakdowns for each recipe to help you and your vet decide what is best for your kitten.

How much do the recipes weigh?

Every cat is unique. We portion each KatKin meal based on your cat’s calorie requirements, not by a fixed gram weight. This ensures your kitten receives the right amount of energy for their growth and activity level.

Because recipes vary in calorie density, tray weights differ slightly between meals. For example, 300 kcal of Oink will not weigh the same as 300 kcal of Cluck.

You can find the total tray weight printed on the white label at the bottom of each tray sleeve. This shows the combined weight of both portions.

As kittens grow, their calorie needs change. These needs usually stabilise once they reach around one year old. It’s important to keep your cat’s weight, activity level and body condition updated in your KatKin account, or speak with our in-house vet team for support. This helps make sure your kitten continues to receive the right portion size as they grow.
