Which KatKin recipes are fish-free or suitable for cats with a fish intolerance?

Updated over a week ago

If your cat can’t eat fish - whether it’s a sensitivity, intolerance, or a suspected allergy - we can help you choose the safest recipe options.

We only have 1 fish based recipe here at KatKin - Splash. But, 4 of our recipes contain fish oil, so if you tell us your cat has a fish allergy, we’ll exclude any recipes containing fish or fish oil from their selection as a precaution.

Here’s a handy guide to which recipes are suitable, and which ones that will be automatically excluded from your available selection.

Fish-free KatKin recipes

These recipes don’t contain fish or fish oil, so they’re suitable for cats with a fish intolerance.

(Ingredients: chicken thigh, liver and heart, plus the KatKin Nutrient Mix.)

🦃 Gobble

(Ingredients: gently-cooked turkey thigh, liver and chicken thigh, gizzards - plus the KatKin Nutrient Mix)

Recipes to avoid if your cat can’t have fish

They'll be automatically excluded from your cat's plan if they have a fish allergy listed, but if you have another cat without an allergy and you'd like to know which recipes are safe to feed, the following recipes contain fish or fish oil:

  • Splash – contains whitefish and salmon

  • Mooo – contains fish oil

  • Oink – contains fish oil

  • Quack – contains fish oil

  • Baaa - contains fish oil

Allergies to fish vs fish oil

Fish oil is used in some recipes because it’s a natural source of essential fatty acids, like omega 3 and omega 6.

In many cases, the proteins that trigger food allergies are not usually present in pure fish oils, which means some cats with fish allergies can safely eat food containing fish oil.

However, this doesn’t apply to all cats - and for cats with a known or suspected fish allergy, we take a cautious approach.

If you tell us your cat has a fish allergy, we’ll remove any recipes containing fish or fish oil from their selection, just to be safe.

If you suspect that your cat can safely eat fish oil and you'd like to expand your cat's recipe selection, we'd advise speaking to your vet first so they can advise you on the best steps to test if our other recipes containing fish oil will trigger your cat's allergies.

Please speak to our Cat Experts who can put you in touch with our In-house Vet Team if you'd like additional advice about adjusting your cat's allergies and viewing a wider selection of recipes.
