Food allergies + hypoallergenic food

Updated today

Navigating food allergies for cats can be tricky, so we’ve made it as easy as possible to find suitable recipes your cat can enjoy, while still being the best for their health.

My cat has food allergies. Would your food be suitable?

If your cat is allergic to a specific meat protein we do have a number of single-source meat protein recipes that might be suitable for them.

If you'd like to learn a little more about each of our fresh meals and their ingredients please visit:

We can also help you select which recipes to choose for your trial box if you let us know what food ingredients your cat is allergic to.

Here’s how KatKin can help for cats with food-related allergies:

🍗 No hidden ingredients, fillers or preservatives:

You can find the full ingredients list for each of our recipes on our website

🥩 Single-source protein options:

Cluck, Mooo and Oink recipes contain only one protein source - making it easier to avoid certain ingredients which your cat may be sensitive to.

📖 A novel protein:

Our Oink recipe contains only pork protein. Pork is often a new protein for many cats, so Oink can be a great option for cats with a sensitivity to the most common proteins such as chicken, beef and fish.

💪 Fully flexible and tailored plans:

Let us know about your cat’s food-related allergies and we’ll ensure we only recommend suitable recipe options.

Does KatKin offer a Hypoallergenic or Anallergenic recipe?

True "hypoallergenic" foods are those that contain hydrolysed proteins, which means the proteins are broken down into pieces that are so small, the immune system no longer reacts to them.

We do not have hydrolysed proteins within our recipes at the moment. However, our food may still be suitable for your cat since our fresh meals do not contain any grains, fillers, sugars, food additives or emulsifiers, and many of our recipes also contain only a single source of protein.

I think my cat has food allergies, what should I do?

If you are unsure if your cat is displaying digestive upset or skin changes associated with a true food allergy, a food trial can help.

A food trial is a meal plan that excludes certain ingredients in order to diagnose or treat a food allergy.

You have to stick to the plan rigidly though: no treats, supplements or table scraps, or else you won’t be able to tell what your cat is and isn’t reacting to. Even bowl licking between cats on different foods can invalidate the test.

If you wish to perform a food trial with KatKin you could consider using our Oink! recipe. This is a single-source protein recipe and is also considered a novel protein. Novel proteins are proteins that your cat has unlikely encountered before and is therefore unlikely to have an allergy to.

Working alongside your vet, KatKin has a selection of single source recipes to make the exclusion of allergens that much easier. No hidden ingredients here!

🩺 Before introducing a new diet (or introducing new ingredients to your cat’s diet) we suggest discussing this with your vet.

We’ve written a range of articles in our Scratching Post blog about food-related allergies, you can find a selection here:
