I don't know if my cat has allergies or medical conditions

What to do if you're not sure about your cat's medical history

Updated over 3 weeks ago

It’s completely normal not to know whether your cat has allergies or underlying medical conditions - especially if they’re young, newly adopted, or haven’t shown any signs of illness.

If this sounds like your situation, here’s what you need to know before signing up to KatKin.

Can I still sign up if I’m not sure?

Yes - you can still sign up as long as you don’t have any reason to believe your cat has allergies or an underlying medical condition.

Many cats:

  • Have never shown symptoms of allergies

  • Are young and haven’t needed medical treatment

  • Are healthy based on everything you’ve seen so far

If your cat appears well and has no known health concerns, it’s fine to continue with sign up.

What if something changes later?

If you later discover that your cat:

  • Has allergies

  • Is diagnosed with a medical condition

  • Needs a change to their diet

You can update these details in your account at any time.

We also have an in-house vet team at KatKin who can support with any questions about suitability if anything changes.

I’ve recently adopted or rescued my cat or kitten - what should I do?

If your cat is newly adopted or rescued and you’re unsure about their medical history, we’d recommend:

  • Waiting until their first vet check-up

  • Asking your vet whether a change in diet would be suitable

In most cases, if your cat:

  • Is eating normally

  • Has no visible symptoms

  • Seems healthy and settled

They’ll usually be fine to start fresh food - but your vet can give you personalised advice if you’d prefer reassurance.

Still unsure?

If you’re ever in doubt, you’re always welcome to:

  • Speak to your vet

  • Get in touch with our Cat Experts

  • Ask for advice from our in-house vet team.

We’re always here to help you make the best choice for your cat. 💚
