If you have more than 1 cat, switching to a new cat food might be a bit more difficult. Especially if they have different preferences at mealtimes, but don’t worry, we’re here to help.
All my cats love the food, but I don’t have the freezer space
If you have more than 1 cat, getting a monthly delivery might take up more freezer space than you have available.
We have a few options to help make this work, depending on
How many cats you have
Their recommended portion size
The amount of food you can fit in your freezer
Get in touch with our Cat Experts and we can help work out a custom plan for you and your cats that suits the availability of your freezer space.
Staggering your deliveries
First to check this is possible for your cats, log into your account to check which portion size your cats are on.
For 2-3 cats on the same tray size, you can stagger their deliveries.
2 cats on the standard monthly plan:
Click manage plan for one cat
Set the delivery date to be 2 weeks after your other cat’s delivery date
Sit back and relax!
This means, you’ll get 1 box of food delivered to share between both cats and then the other cat’s box is delivered 2 weeks later.
You’ll still only pay one delivery charge of £2.99, even if the deliveries are on separate days - result!
It means you won’t receive 56 trays of KatKin at once, but instead spread over 2 deliveries, at no extra cost.
2 cats on the 6 week Saver plan:
Set both cat's plans to the Saver Plan by clicking 'manage plan' and then select ‘edit delivery frequency’.
Once both are on the Saver Plan, click manage plan for one cat
Set the delivery date to be 3 weeks after your other cat’s delivery date
Save the delivery date and wait for your email confirmation.
This means, you’ll get 1 box of food delivered to share between both cats and then the other cat’s box is delivered 3 weeks later.
It means you won’t receive 84 trays of KatKin at once, but instead spread over 2 deliveries, at no extra cost.
Tip! If you need to change the delivery date at any point, you’ll need to remember to adjust your other cat’s delivery to be inline with the new date as this doesn’t happen automatically.
3 cats on the 6 week Saver plan:
Set all cat's plans to the Saver Plan by clicking 'manage plan' and then select ‘edit delivery frequency’.
Once all 3 are on the Saver Plan, click manage plan for your second cat
Set the delivery date to be 2 weeks after your first cat’s delivery date
Click manage plan for your third cat
Set the delivery date to be 4 weeks after your first cat’s delivery date.
You’ll get 1 box every 2 weeks, for 6 weeks in total.
It means you won’t receive 126 trays of KatKin at once, but instead spread over 3 deliveries, at no extra cost.
Tip! If you need to change the delivery date at any point, you’ll need to remember to adjust your other cat’s delivery to be inline with the new date as this doesn’t happen automatically.
Preventing Bowl-Swapping
Bowl-swapping can sometimes pose a problem when multiple cats share living spaces. This can be a hurdle if your cats need vastly different portion sizes with KatKin. Here are some proven strategies to ensure each cat eats their allocated portion:
Separate Feeding Areas: Feed each cat in a different room or place bowls in opposite corners of the same room. Close the door or block access for about 10-15 minutes to allow them to eat in peace.
Elevated spaces: If you don't have floor space to feed multiple cats in one room, consider feeding one cat higher up on a counter or table top.
Consistent Setup: Use distinct bowls for each cat and keep them in the same location so cats associate their own bowl with their meal.
Puzzle Feeders and Slow Feeders: These options not only engage your cats during mealtimes but also slow their eating pace, minimising the chance of bowl-swapping. Slow feeders are particularly helpful for cats or kittens that might finish their meals too quickly. If you have one cat that eats particularly quickly and then looks to steal food, consider only feeding them from a slow feeder. Easy to clean mats like Lickimats are perfect for this.
Supervised Mealtimes: Be present during feeding to redirect any cat that appears interested in another’s bowl until both have finished eating.
Microchip or Selective-Access Feeders: Consider investing in feeders that respond only to a registered cat’s microchip. These feeders are particularly effective when certain cats tend to overeat or steal food from others. Often these can found on Facebook Marketplace or on local swap-pages.
What happens if one of my cat’s is eating KatKin but the other cat isn’t?
Some cats need more time than others to switch to a new food and their behaviour might surprise you.
If after 2 weeks, one of your cats still isn’t a fan, get in touch with our Cat Experts. We can work out a delivery schedule that suits you best, whether that means delaying or pausing one of your cat’s deliveries.
A lot of our customers continue to successfully feed fresh to at least one cat and our flexible plans help you do this. Sometimes, after several weeks or even months, other cat parents find that their cat’s opinions can change too. Keep them exposed to KatKin, and they might decide to take a bite!
Give your cat a break
If your cat isn’t interested in any KatKin recipes yet and you’ve tried all the tips in our Fussy cat guide, switch back to their regular food.
Their leftover trays in your freezer can be given to your other cats, but if they’re different tray sizes, get in touch with our Cat Experts and we can help you work out how to portion the remaining food.
Tip! You can check which tray size your cats receive by looking at the white box on the bottom of a tray. It should say something like 200kcal or 350kcal.
Try again in the future
If you need to pause your cat’s plan, we’ll keep their details saved on file. That way, it’s easy for you to reactivate their subscription at any time if they decide KatKin is for them!
