Our KatKin recipes are made of 100% human-quality meat, with no preservatives or additives. Think of it just like meat you buy from the supermarket when it comes to it’s freshness, rather than the lifespan of traditional cat food tins or sachets.
Once a tray is fully defrosted in your fridge, it stays fresh for 10 days. If you open a tray and put it back in the fridge (such as if your cat prefers more than 2 meals a day) it will last for 2 days. We recommend putting it in a sealed container to maintain the freshness and keep the meat succulent.
Your KatKin trays can be kept for up to 9 months in the freezer too. Just check the Best before date printed on the bottom right hand side of the ‘evening’ trays. You'll also find important information like the batch number, calorie amount and weight of the trays on the bottom right hand side too.
Why do the trays say the food can be kept in the fridge for 5 days, but your booklet says 10 days?
Good spot! The 10-day fridge guidance is correct and we’re in the process of updating our shelf-life guidance. While our tray packaging still say 5 days, we’re currently updating our tray film and using up existing stock to avoid waste. Unopened food can be kept fresh in the fridge for up to 10 days, and once opened, it should be refrigerated and used within 2 days.
