How to change the texture of your KatKin meals
Our fresh recipes are made with 100% human-quality meat. While their slightly chunky texture is ideal for many cats, some cats may require softer food such as a pâté, mousse, or even more of a soup. This guide explains how to adapt KatKin meals to suit your cat’s specific needs.
Best methods to change the texture of KatKin
If your cat prefers smoother or softer meals, here are some common techniques you can use:
Add warm water: - Mix in one to two tablespoons of warm water to soften the food.
Microwave briefly: - Heat the tray for about 15 seconds in the microwave. This loosens the texture by warming the meat juices and melting fat particularly in recipes like Mooo or Baaa.
Mash with a fork: - After adding water or warming, thoroughly mash the food to break down any chunks.
These adjustments can create a mousse-like or smoother consistency. Some of our customers have even let us know they've gone the extra mile and blended their cat's food (using a separate blender.) This works really well for cats who need a liquid diet and can't pick up food with their teeth, and you can rest assured that they're still getting all the vital nutrients they need.
These methods work great to help cats with:
Gingivitis
missing teeth
oral pain or mouth sores
Enhancing meals for picky eaters
If your cat is selective about food texture, you can adjust the meal to suit their preferences:
Add a small amount of warm water to release natural meat juices and create a soup-like consistency.
Thoroughly mash the food to mimic a mousse texture if your cat prefers pâté-like meals.
Warming the food can help to release the strong scent of the meat too, which can make it smell even more enticing. This is perfect for senior cats whose sense of smell may not be as strong.
By implementing these simple adjustments, you can ensure that KatKin meals work well for your cat, regardless of its dental sensitivity, texture preferences, or hydration needs. If you have further questions, feel free to refer to our support resources.
