Chronic Constipation

Updated today

Are KatKin Recipes Suitable for Cats with Constipation?

KatKin recipes contain variable amounts of naturally-occurring crude fibre from our fresh meat, but none would be considered high in fibre.

Some cats may be more fibre responsive than others and therefore benefit from an additional fibre source, such as Psyllium husk.

We’d of course recommend that you talk to your vet about how fibre-responsive your cat’s condition is before making the switch.

What is Constipation?

Constipation occurs when an excess of faeces builds up in the colon, leading to difficulty in passing stool. This can cause infrequent or absent defecation.

Constipation can have a variety of causes including:

  • Hairballs

  • Stress

  • Obesity and lack of exercise

  • Pelvic injuries or abnormalities resulting in a narrowed pelvic canal

  • Underlying health issues (especially digestive disorders)

Cats prone to developing constipation, or with a history of digestive disorders, may benefit from a source of fibre in their diet to promote healthy digestion.
