KatKin and sustainability

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Sustainability is a huge focus area for KatKin and our community. Many of the decisions we make to deliver 100% fresh, perfectly-portioned food to your cat also help us keep our carbon footprint down. We recognise that working with meat bears a significant footprint, but we aim to tread as lightly as possible to protect our planet while loving hard and feeding fresh.

  1. Firstly, our fresh food is perfectly portioned to each cat's personal daily calorie needs which helps to reduce food waste from overfeeding and/or food being left in the bowl.

  2. We’ve put a lot of thought into our packaging, too. At the moment, there’s no packaging currently on the market that is both kerbside recyclable and able to withstand our cooking process. We’re working closely with packaging suppliers to enable this innovation in the future.

    1. The food-safe soft plastic unfortunately aren’t widely recyclable yet but you can return them to any local grocery stores that run a soft plastic recycling scheme. We’re committed to finding ways to make our packaging even more recyclable as we continue to grow and innovate.

  3. We’ve also partnered with leaders in sustainable cardboard packaging for your boxes. The box (read: cat mansion) your food arrives in is sourced from a vertically-integrated company who own and operate 68,000 hectares of FSC certified forestry, and themselves recycle 8 million tonnes of paper waste every year.

    1. This means our boxes are made from 60% recycled materials and have a small footprint of 1.38g CO2e per box.

We know there is still more to do when it comes to meeting our sustainability targets and doing our part to keep doing better. One of our values at KatKin is “No Shortcuts,” so rest assured we aren’t done yet when it comes to sustainably cooking, packaging, and delivering your cat’s 100% fresh food.
