Right now, no. KatKin is not a member of UK Pet Food (formerly PFMA). Here’s why: Membership criteria does not include recipe composition, meaning a brand can join even if their food contains as little as 4% meat. Members are also required to sign a code of conduct agreeing not to criticise other members. At KatKin, if something is not right for cat health, we will always speak up, and we will not compromise on that.
Because of this, PFMA membership is not a priority for us at the moment. Instead of spending on membership fees, we would rather invest directly into what matters most: improving our recipes, expanding our reach, developing the best cat care products, and supporting charities that save cat lives. In the meantime, we hold ourselves to standards higher than PFMA membership.
Our recipes are developed by our board-certified Veterinary Nutritionist and a full team of in-house experts to meet and exceed all FEDIAF standards in the UK, as well as AAFCO standards and NRC recommendations in the US. We do things the right way for cats, every time.
And beyond our nutrition standards, our KatKin Kitchen is BRCGS accredited with an AA rating and approved by both the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) and the Food Standards Agency (FSA). BRCGS is the same globally recognised food safety programme used by human food manufacturers. This means our kitchen operates to strict, independently audited standards for hygiene, quality control, and traceability. And we follow the same rigorous safety processes expected in human food production.
